On March 6 almost 300 board members, family and friends gathered at the Desmond Hotel in Malvern to support the Cuddle My Kids (CMK) award ceremony.
Cocktails, hors d’oeuvres, a huge silent auction, dinner and live auction made the evening festive. The video showing the programs, the 2014 Norma Ciccarone Award of Hope presentation to Edmond Walters, and the Margie Goodwin award to Miss Jillian Hughes made the night meaningful. Scott Gabrielsen, president of CMK, and his wife, Cathy, CMK founder, made the evening touching. Such wonderful people who took their struggle with cancer public and turned it into a positive to help others. Their belief is families that battle the cancer shouldn’t struggle alone. Cathy having experienced the battle with cancer first hand knew trying to balance recovery with caring and nurturing young children was extremely difficult. After her experience she needed to do something so she founded Cuddle My Kids in 2007. Since its founding, over 600 individuals have been served.
CMK is a no-cost resource for families with cancer. Their program supports children through creative play, arts and crafts, while at the same time offering respite for the sick parent. They provide cancer patients uninterrupted time to focus on their own medical issues healing, increasing their quality of life during treatment. Making lemonade out of lemons and offering some help to others — that’s what the Gabrielsen’s and the CMK gang does. They are true all-stars in the game of life.
